How Can You Change a Pregnant Mom's Life with $5?

In a recent conversation with Tom and Martha Day, they discussed the importance of The Vitamin Bridge. When asked why they created this nonprofit, Martha explained, “We saw a need among disadvantaged women within our community and we wanted to help.” Although we are all able to give back at some point in our lives, Tom shared that they were in a place in life to do so and “wanted to put forth an extra effort to fill this gap.”
The Day’s main motivation in creating The Vitamin Bridge was to “meet a need that wasn’t being met.” Although there are numerous nonprofits assisting pregnant women, very few focus on providing free prenatal vitamins and nutrition education in the United States. Prenatal vitamins are an essential component of a healthy pregnancy and often overlooked. (Learn more about prenatal vitamins here >>)

While volunteering at a local pregnancy center, Martha realized that disadvantaged, pregnant women who are struggling with economic disparities are “not going to put prenatal vitamins at the forefront, there are other more pressing needs in their lives”. She shared, “I felt very fortunate to have three healthy babies, prenatal care, insurance, and all of the things that go with having a healthy pregnancy.” When Martha saw “this wasn’t true for everyone and there are a lot of women who don’t have these same advantages,” she just wanted to help.
What is the most rewarding part?
The Vitamin Bridge’s growth over the past three years has been inspiring. When asked what the most rewarding part of the journey has been Tom said, “I think it’s been how much The Vitamin Bridge has grown and achieved…in the form of fundraising, finding different ways to procure prenatal vitamins, and the number of women we have been able to serve…It's been rewarding to see a lot of hard work culminate in the impacting of lives.” So far, The Vitamin Bridge has been able to help over 30,000 women at 42 distinct locations. With The Vitamin Bridge’s dedication to serving women in communities across Texas, along with increasing need, this number will only continue to grow.
Martha explained that the most rewarding aspect of this organization for her has been that “some women and some babies are really being impacted.” She is proud that The Vitamin Bridge has created a “greater potential for life” for moms and children. Both Tom and Martha are pleased that their nonprofit has achieved its goal of aiding disadvantaged women in having healthy pregnancies.
The Vitamin Bridge is “helping generations to come” by assisting moms and babies toward healthy pregnancies. When Martha was asked why someone should donate to The Vitamin Bridge over other organizations, she “doesn’t know of any other way that for $5 you can change someone’s life.” Prenatal vitamins aid in proper child development, reduce premature births, and allowing the mother to have a healthier pregnancy.
